There are moments that change you forever. This was one… As a musician, it's kind of embarrassing to admit, but I didn’t really know what an “album” was. Musicians are supposed to know these things, right? I seriously thought people just recorded one song at a time and then released them to radio. I remember different artists saying, “I’m recording my album” and I was like, “No one cares about your album, people only buy singles.” But…that all changed in 2011. And yes. I was a little late to this party. A friend of mine was like, "Tyler, have you heard the John Mayer 'Continuum' album?" ME: Ummmm…NO. I was hesitant. But I trusted him so I put it on and listened as a whole. HIM: Good? ME: Ok…What is this? This is amazing! Why am I feeling these things? Why are body parts tingling? I was blown away. I couldn’t get enough. In fact, the only song I skipped was track one, his radio single, “Waiting on the World to Change." I would listen from track 2 through 12 on repeat for DAYS! It changed me. I finally understood the value of an album. It rewired how I felt about music. It moved me. It inspired me. It made me want to hug my mother. It made me dance with a broom in the middle of the kitchen. Yes it did. And finally, it inspired me to want to create my very first original album.Sooooo…What made me think of all this and decide to share it with all of your lovely faces? Well, I just found out I’m headed to Madison Square Garden on Saturday to see John Mayer perform with members of the Grateful Dead! WHAAAATTTT??!?!!? Yeah. So amped. ‪#amexunstaged‬ ‪#amexambassador‬Annnnnnd…I would love to know, what's your favorite album of all time?!?
